Recycled and certified materials

Here you can read about the certifications we use to document the materials and production of products. We explain what the different standards cover. Let’s start by exploring the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and its two key subcategories: Recycled 100 and Recycled Blended.

Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international certification standard designed to promote recycling and reduce waste in production processes. This standard covers various materials, including rPET, recycled cotton, recycled steel and rCanvas. The materials have different properties, but they are all made wholly or partly from recycled raw materials.

Recycled 100

Recycled 100 certification is awarded to products made entirely from 100% recycled materials. This means the entire product is created using materials repurposed from previous products or waste. By choosing products with Recycled 100 certification, you directly contribute to waste reduction.

Recycled Blended

Recycled Blended certification applies to products containing a mix of recycled materials and new materials. This blend allows for the use of recycled resources while reducing the need to extract and produce new materials. By selecting products with Recycled Blended certification, you still help reduce resource consumption and waste.

rPET (recycled PET)

rPET is a material made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is commonly used to produce recyclable bottles, clothing, and textiles. Using rPET reduces the need for new plastic materials, helping to decrease plastic waste.

Recycled cotton

Recycled cotton is produced from recycled cotton materials, often sourced from textile production waste or used textiles. By recycling cotton, water usage, pesticide impact, and energy consumption are significantly reduced compared to growing and producing new cotton. This practice also supports a circular economy by extending the lifespan of cotton materials.

Recycled steel

Recycled steel is made from scrap steel and materials derived from reused steel. By utilizing recycled steel, valuable resources are conserved, as steel production from raw materials requires significant energy and emits considerable greenhouse gases. Recycled steel helps lower CO2 emissions and reduces the need for iron ore mining.

rCanvas

rCanvas is a material made from recycled cotton and recycled polyester. It is often used to create durable, reusable bags and textiles. By using rCanvas, the demand for new materials is reduced, minimizing waste. It is an alternative to fabrics made from new raw materials.

Documented recycled content

By choosing products certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and made from materials like rPET, recycled cotton, recycled steel and rCanvas, you get documentation of how much of the product is made from recycled material. This means less new raw material is used.
